BritBox’s Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence, with Antonia Thomas and Josh Dylan, moves Christie’s married sleuths into the present day. It isn’t one book on screen. The six episodes adapt three pieces of Christie: two short stories from Partners in Crime (1929) and the late novel By the Pricking of My Thumbs (1968). The whole series streams in the U.S. and Canada on BritBox. The first two episodes arrived on September 15, 2026, and the finale on October 13.
Which story each episode adapts
The series tells three two-part stories. This breakdown comes from the episode list on Wikipedia. Agatha Christie Ltd’s own page only says the show draws on “the novels and short stories”.
| Episodes | Christie source | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | “Finessing the King” / “The Gentleman Dressed in Newspaper” | Short story (two linked chapters of Partners in Crime) |
| 3–4 | An original mystery drawing on “The Affair of the Pink Pearl” and “The Man in the Mist” | Short stories from Partners in Crime |
| 5–6 | By the Pricking of My Thumbs | Novel |
The finale is the most faithful to its source. By the Pricking of My Thumbs is the novel in which Tommy’s elderly Aunt Ada lives in a care home and a remark from another resident starts Tuppence investigating. The series turns Aunt Ada, played by Imelda Staunton, into a retired private detective who helps the pair from the start, instead of saving her for the final story.
Phoebe Éclair-Powell wrote all six episodes. The series was made by Lookout Point (part of BBC Studios) with Agatha Christie Ltd, and BritBox commissioned it.
The Tommy and Tuppence books in order
Christie wrote five Tommy and Tuppence books across 51 years, and unlike Poirot and Marple, the couple age in real time from book to book:
- The Secret Adversary (1922). The young couple’s first adventure, a post-war spy thriller.
- Partners in Crime (1929). Short stories in which they run a detective agency, each one parodying a famous fictional detective of the day. Episodes 1–4 of the BritBox series come from here.
- N or M? (1941). Middle-aged, they hunt for Nazi agents at a seaside guesthouse during the Second World War.
- By the Pricking of My Thumbs (1968). The basis of episodes 5–6.
- Postern of Fate (1973). The last novel Christie wrote, with Tommy and Tuppence in retirement.
You don’t need to read them first. Each episode pair is a self-contained mystery, and the show changes the setting, the era and some of the plotting. If you want to start with the books after watching, Partners in Crime is the closest match to the series’ tone.
Will there be a season 2?
Neither BritBox nor Agatha Christie Ltd had announced a second series when we checked on October 19, 2026, and no U.K. broadcast date has been announced either. We’ll update the show page if that changes.
More Christie on U.S. streaming
BritBox also streams Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Agatha Christie’s Marple. For the wider picture, see the best British mysteries streaming in the U.S. now and BritBox vs Acorn TV vs PBS Passport.
