Anthony Horowitz’s Susan Ryeland books have become three MASTERPIECE series, all starring Lesley Manville as book editor Susan Ryeland and Tim McMullan as the fictional detective Atticus Pünd. Each series has two mysteries running at once: one Susan investigates in the real world, and one inside an Atticus Pünd novel. Each can be watched on its own, but together they tell one continuous story about Susan.

Do you need to watch the first two?
Not to follow the mystery. Each series has its own murders, clues and solution, and Marble Hall Murders sets up its case from the start.
Yes, if you care about Susan. Her career, relationships and history with Atticus Pünd’s creator carry over from one series to the next. Moonflower Murders is effectively a sequel to Magpie Murders, and Marble Hall Murders follows on from both. Watching in order makes her choices in the new series easier to understand.
If you only have time for one before the Marble Hall Murders finale on October 11, watch Moonflower Murders. It’s the most recent and leads directly into the new series.
